M March 2, 1945 ar Miss Mary M. Dodds Hillsdale, New York My dear Miss Dodús: I am sorry to have been delayed in answering your letter of February 22. I have been anxious, however, to explain to yuu again as I have just now over the telephone that we must follow the policy being expected of other organizations in the country as well that nurses who are eligible for military service are not being employed unless the positions require some very special pre- paration which the nurse has had. We, ourselves, as the recruit- ing agency for the Army and Mavy have felt that we must be parti- cularly urgent in our appeal to these nurses to enter the military as I am sure you understand. Your experience in England does, of course, stand as certain preparation and because of this and the fact that you are the only nurse involved, I 830 willing to leave the final decision in your hands again urging, however, that you be very sure you realize the need of the military. I believe the other nurses in England are ineligible for military service. It would not be possible for us to authorize the appointment of any other nurde to the staff there who is eligible for military service except as she hes had additional post-graduate study or experience which is essential in the work to which sheutrould be assigned. I am glad you were able to see Miss Beard as I am sure she enjoyed having you, I am enclosing all of the uniform application forms you might need. Shey should be sent directly to the firm with check enclosed. Sincerely yours, 5 Virginia M. Dunbar Director, w Nursing Service Encls. w Drad N
