COPY.
Date received- November 10. 1922.
Copy of Cablegram received from San Juan P.R.
For Forster:
If nurses are sent easteri Europe please remember me.
Kathleen D'Olier
AMCROSS.
Extracted from letter from Miss Noyes to Miss D'Olier Nov. 13, 1922.
Mr. Forster has transferred a cable to me, which reads as follows-
" If nurses are sent eastern Europe please remember me."
(sgn) Kathleen D'Olier.
He makes the following comment-t
"This is a surprise We don't want to lose Miss D'Olier,
but her wish has every right to recieve consideration."
Mr. Forster has of course nothing to do with the assignment of nurses, or
with th e operations in Graece. Dr. Hill is the Director of Foreign Opera-
tions and is now in that country,
From all accounts the situation is very terrible. We have drawn together
in Athens all the nurses that we had available, and have taken over dome from the n
Near East Relief. So far, no requests have come for additional nurses, but we are ready
to send them whenever one is recieved. Mrs. Heilman is Director of Nursing for Greece
and Miss Nelson is down there at present assisting her. Miss Mathews has just been
returned, she however is the only nusre that has been sent from this country, As we
have a large number available I should be very sorry to disturb the work which you
are now conducting in Porto Rico, which is probably quite as importantin the long
run and certainly more constructive. The work in Athens is now largely relief situation
as there is absolutely no facilities for proper housing of for hospitalization. It
looks to me as if thousands of refugees would dic. I see no help for it, if not by
the sword of the Turk, certainly from exposure and starvation, not to mention typhus
and other epidemics.
