May 27, 1930. Miss Harriette S. Douglas, c/o Equitable Trust Company, 41 Rue Camban, Paris, France, My dear Miss Douglass You filled me with envy when I received your two postcards, one from Oberannergau and the other from Verona, and it was indeed a plea ure tohaar from you. I am sure you will be surprised when I toll you that I have been obliged to have an operation and am now writing from Columbia Hospital. I have gotten along beautifully, and although it is only my 12th day I havewalked from my bed to a chair this morning. Fortunately the fibroid which I had removed was of such a nature that I could be relieved from it without disturbance to any of my organs, so that all I have to do is to lie here and let my incision heal, which it has done very promptly. I havehad almost none of the discomfort which usually follows laparotomy, and I expect if all goes well to be back in my home at the end of two weeks, i.e., by tomorrow night. I note that you expect to return to the states about the first of July and I shall hope to see you before I sail for Europe on July 23rd. with much love and affection, I am as always Sincerely yours, National Director, Nursing Service.
