Douglas,\nc/o Equitable Trust Company,\n41 Rue Camban,\nParis, France,\nMy dear Miss Douglass\nYou filled me with envy when I received\nyour two postcards, one from Oberannergau and the other from\nVerona, and it was indeed a plea ure tohaar from you.\nI am sure you will be surprised when I\ntoll you that I have been obliged to have an operation and am\nnow writing from Columbia Hospital. I have gotten\nalong\nbeautifully, and although it is only my 12th day I havewalked\nfrom my bed to a chair this morning. Fortunately the fibroid\nwhich I had removed was of such a nature that I could be relieved\nfrom it without disturbance to any of my organs, so that all I\nhave to do is to lie here and let my incision heal, which it has\ndone very promptly. I havehad almost none of the discomfort which\nusually follows laparotomy, and I expect if all goes well to be\nback in my home at the end of two weeks, i.e., by tomorrow night.\nI note that you expect to return to the\nstates about the first of July and I shall hope to see you before\nI sail for Europe on July 23rd. with much love and affection,\nI am as always\nSincerely yours,\nNational Director, Nursing Service.\nN.H\ndictated but not read"
