Miss Alice Fitzgerald
American Woman's Club
353 West 57th Street
New York, New York
My dear Miss Fitzgerald:
There must be something in mental telepathy for I
have been thinking about you lately and wondering where you were
as it is a long time since I have had the pleasure of receiving a
letter from you, so the arrival of your letter was in response to
my desire to hear from you.
Mr. Normait H. Davis has been in London attending the
Conference of the League of Red Cross Societies. He returns to this
country on Friday, July 8th, and I think plans to come directly to
Washington. I would advise you to write him in care of the American
Red Cross so that a letter will await his arrival and in the mountime
I will send your letter to his office. I do not know his future
plans regarding his stay in Washington. of course, I shall be
delighted to see you and expect to be here until July 16th when I
am leaving for one week's vacation, but I will e back in the office
on Monday, July 25th. If you would prefer to have a letter reach
Mr. Davis in New York, his home address is 59 East 79th Street.
How does it seem to be retired? As I am facing this
great change in my life in the near future, I am thinking a great
deal about it and what I 43071 going to do. My first step will be to
retire to Hartford where I will live in a little apartment to be near
my family. I expect to keep very busy and east planning many things
I am anxious to do. One is to also do a bit of writing for it seems
to me that some of KIV Red Cross experiences might well become permanent
records; at least they will be interesting to my family.
I shall look forward to seeing you at some future time
for I have a very happy recollection of you and shall never forget
your great kindness to me during that awful year 1918 when Paris was
in such a neas. You never seemed to lose your poise and my recollection
is that when I talked with you, you also seemed to have retained your
sanity which is more than can be said of everyone with whom I had to
work but in spite of the trials and tribulations of that year, I look
back upon it with the greatest satisfaction. It was indeed an
opportunity which I have never regretted.
