Noyes,\nDirector, Department of Nursing,\nAmerican Red Cross,\nWashington, D. C.\nMy dear Miss Noyes:\nIn letter of January 22nd (sent off by courier yesterday) I find\nI made no mention of the fact that Miss Lena Margaret Johnson, who came\nover with the Greek Commission and later was transferred to Montenegro,\nhas been appointed Chief Nurse of Serbia, with headquarters at Belgrade.\nThe work in Serbia of itself is requiring and there are difficulties as\nwell--all of which call for a woman of much ability and experience, and\nI have every reason to suppose Miss Johnson will measure up to the\nrequirements.\nI have taken Miss Johnson from Montenegro only with the cordial\nconsent of Colonel Fairclough, Commissioner, who accedes--feeling that\nit is a well deserved promotion and recognition of her efficient service.\nMiss Myrtle Dean, of the Montenegrin Commission, is being made Acting\nChief Nurse and will shortly, if she proves equal, be regularly appointed\nMin Dream\nChief Nurse.
