arch January 9, 1933. Mrs. Lystra Gretter 887 Pallister Avenue Destroit, Michigan My dear Mrs. Gretter: Your very delightful note of December 30, has been received and read with a great deal of appreciation, and while I am sure you did not expect an answer, your long association with the American "ed Cross and your support of its ideals and standards inspired me to write a word of appreciation. Sometimes the advis- ability of sending a Christmas Letter is uestioned by the officials of the American Red Cross as an unnecessary expenditives. Therefore, when your let er reached me I immediately sent it to the Vice-Chairman in charge of our work in this country, as I wanted him to see at lest one of the letters of appreciation that reached me following the receipt of the Christmas message. Yours is one, however, of many and because the nurses seem to appreciate the Christmas letter, I have recommended the perpetuation of the custom each year. The Red Cross is at present a very busy place, with its cotton and wheat, keeping thousands of women busy through the chapters. It seems like wer days, except scarcity of employment and lack of money offers & sharp contrast. lot will be interested to hear that Miss Agnes Deans is in Washington in charge of the District of Columbia Graduate Nurses' Association. We are so glad to have her, and I feel sure she will be able to develop the work along more constructive lines. Again thanking you for your letter, and with best wishes for a Happy New Year, I remain Sincerely yours National Director, Nursing Service
