My dear Miss Hales:
It is certainly very heartening to receive such an offer as
yours from one of our nurses who has served so long and efficiently
in the nursing profession.
Your record in our files now makea quite a volume and we
realize how eager you are to add another chapter to this record of
service in the present war. We wish very nuch that wa could tell you
of some opening which either the Red Cross or the Army ar Navy Nurse
Corps has for you at the present time, but as the facts stand, the
age limit for such service have not been altered and assignments are
not being given to wonfen OVer forty yours of age, except in la few
rare cases by the Army to women up to the age of fortyfive.
None of u know how long this war is going to last or what
changes will come to pass. We assure you that we shall bear in mind
your generous offer and advise you at any future date when an euer-
gency might arise which would require your service.
