I INTER - OFFICE LETTER AMERICAN NATIONAL RED CROSS SOUTHWESTERN DIVISION-ST. LOUIS A. R. C. MAIL ROOM RECEIVED To Miss Clara G. Noyes, Director, Nursing Service, Date April 1, 1925. APR 4700 From Washington, D. C. Subjeci Mrs. E. H. Vaughan. Referreu w/ I have just received the following telegram with Miss Hay's signature: "Letter received today sick Presbyterian Doctor says probably incapacitated month Urge other arrangements Letter follows." In a letter to you a few days ago we mentioned having asked Miss Hay to report for duty on April lst. Not having heard from her by April lst, I was somewhat concerned. That evening I received a letter from Miss Morse, who being on her way to Michigan spent Sunday in Chicago, telling me of Miss Hay's illness. She evidently had gotten her in- formation from Miss Threns. The stroke, altho slight, had effected Miss Hay's speech, Yesterday I wired Miss MacMillan at the Presbyterian Hospital, asking for in- formation about Miss Hay's condition, and the prognosis, but so far have had no answer from her in regard to this: Needless to say, I am just sick at the thought of not having Miss Hay with us. However, it would seem unwise for her to consider work at this time. We are taking care of the routine work in the office, and hope that it may be possible for Miss Chapman to come in to St' Louis for a day or so next week to go over some of the Home Hygiene material on hand.. I hope that you and Mrs Baker are not not worrying about that service. Just happens that there are no pressing problems, and eveything is going along nicely. As soon as I receive Miss Hay's letter I shall send you a copy. Miss Chapman and her nurses are working on a report of nurses assigned to the disaster area, which we hope to be able to send on to Washington the latter part of this week. Very sincerely yours, Elabrih 4. baughan Mrs E. H. Vaughan, Assistant Director, Nursing Service. It C 8 10f. 2
