I N WELVE CENTS A WEEK Director of Red Cross Presents Flag to Miss Hay Sent as Token of Affection and Because of Treasured Association With Her in Europe Inspired by her treasured associa- tions with Miss Helen Scott Hay in Red Cross nursing activities in France, Miss Elsbeth Vaughan, director/ of the northwest division of the American Red Cross with headquarters at St. Louis, Mo., sent a beautiful silk Red Cross flag to Miss Hay several days ago. Miss Vaughan was in the city a week ago to visit Miss Hay. It was their first meeting in the past year. Miss Vaughan was assistant under Miss Hay who was director of nurs- ing activities in Europe from 1920 to 1922. Token of Affection A letter from Miss Vaughan which accompanied the flag stated that it was sent as a token of Miss Vaugh- an's deep love and affection for Miss Hay and because of treasured association with her in Europe. The flag hangs on the wall of Migs Hay's apartment. Near It is hanging a plaque which Miss Hay purchased in Prague with the ap- proval of Miss Pansy V. Beesem who worked with her there and was head of Red Cross nursing activities in Prague. Miss Beesom is now head of nursing activities in the Philip- pine Islands and has been there for many years. Receives Many Letters Many letters have come in recent weeks to Miss Hay from her many associates in Red Cross work who are scattered at distant points. Among them are letters from Wash- ington, D. C., the Philippines, Hono- lulu, and Albania,
