I the M. February 7, 1924. 1 Mrs. Charlotte M. Heilman, Director of Nursing, Dominican Chapter, A.R.C., Santo Domingo City, D. R. My dear Mrs. Heilman: Your letter of January 26th, sent back by the Pilot boat was received some days ago. I am hastening to reply because of the insurance question. I have taken this matter up at the Staff Council and also with Mr. Swift, personally, and I hope that something will come out of it. I wonder if any type of local insurance has been established which you might obtain upon arrival, at either the expense to yourself or to the Chapter? Chapters have occasionally assumed M this responsibility. I sincerly hope that something will come Ithave discussed the group insurance for years, and am a firm baliever in the development of some plan whereby our nurses and other workers who are assigned to hasardous positions may be satisfactorily covered. Mr. Bicknell has returned, and tells me that he left Santo Domingo before you arrived. He was very much disappointed, because he had wanted to meet you. A cable and letter regarding the successor for has been received. I doubt very much whether we will be able secure Miss Hunt, together with an agreement endorsed by various officials, to any nurses of the type desired under the arrangement. Transportation only from port of embarkation would restrict our possibilities very uncertain seriously, rated from circumstances and their very home few to as nurses a port those are of which embarkation, prepared inevitably to pay especially surround discuss under them in the expensive railroad such Santo Domingo. As soon as I have had an opportunity to matter with Mr. Bicknell we will send a cable to the Chapter. Sincerely yours, National Director, Nursing Service. n-k J a 0
