Miss Mary Beard, Director
Nursing Service
American Red Cross
Washington, D.C.
My dear Miss Beard:
I know how terribly distressed you will be to learn that on
Monday, June 16th, we were advised of the oritical illness
of Mrs. Mary A. Hickey, Secretary of the American Nurses'
Association, who is in Mount Alto Hospital, Washington, D.C.
The diagnosis was intestinal obstruction. A letter was
received yesterday from Mrs. Julia o, Flikke stating that
surgery had been performed as a temporary measure to relieve
this condition:
We shall make every effort to keep the members of the ANA
Board of Directors advised about Mrs. Hickey's condition.
Pink peonies and blue delphiniums were sent to Mrs. Hickey
on Monday from the ANA Board of Directors.
Cordially yours,
Julia C. Stimson, R.N.
President
