A new venture for nurses and American Red Cross Insular and Foreign Operations
alike is the assignment of six nurses, trained at National he adquarters, to the
Civilian War Relief staff.
Assigned to oversews duty as field represent tives are two former Red Cross
area nurses and four from public health nursing fields. Miss Christine "right,
formerly assistant director of nursing service, is Sou heastern area's contribution,
and Miss Lillian Upham, nursing field represent tive in Midwestern area, is the
other member of Red Cross nursing service to be given overseas assignment.
The four newcomers to Red Cross assignment are Miss Dagmar Johnson, who was
with the Minnesota Department of Health; Miss Alice Christianson, from the U. S.
Public Health Service in Maryland; Miss Evelyn Hannon, formerly with the Kansas
State Board of Public Health, and Miss Maryella Clayton, who was a school nurse
at Fort Smith, Arkansas.
The six nurses were given intensive training at Red Cross National headquarters
in Washington orior to departure for overseas. In their Civilien War Relief
assignments they will assist the Army in civilian health and welfare work.
