IN REPLY TO M. & S. NO
HOSPITAL NO
U.S. NAVAL HOSPITAL
Brooklyn, N.Y..
February 9th I920.
Dear Miss Noyes,
I am in receipt of a special delivery letter
from Miss Florence Johnson, in which she enclosed a copy of a
telgram she had received from you, regarding my availability
for service with the Red Cross in Europe.
While I sincerely appreciate this honor, às I
told Miss Johnson, My conscience tells me that if I were to
desert the Service now when it needs every nurse it has and more
I would consider myself no better than the Bolsheviki and the
I.W.W.'s who are causing all the unrest in the U.S.now. We are
up to our ears with work wards all full of sick patients and
though an appeal was sent out for temporary nurses none seem
to
be rushing in. In standing by the government I am trying to
show what the true Red Cross spirit really is.
Again appreciating your wanting me, and hoping
you are keeping well, I am,
Very Sincerely,
Siphin rikine.
