My dear Miss Noyes,
Your letter of JuTy 16th, enclosing copy of your
request for appropriation for the Scholarship money has been
received. Yesterday our ComptFoller recei ved a cable signed
Farrand stating that the money had been deposited to our credit.

I talked over the question raised by your second
paragraph wit' Dr. Strong, and he agrees with me that it would
not be advisable to ask for an itemised accoünt of expenditure
from each student. I must explain to you thät the course which
has been arfanged is an expensive one inasmuct as a "feë has to be
paid to each organization and association with which the students
wIll becöme affiliated for short periöds of time. In addition to
these, the maintenance and board of the student during the vacations
has also to be paid for, and wh en accounts were made out, about
$300 only remained to cover necessary travelling during the course,
books, laundry and incidentals. I' think you wIll agree that the
sum is not excessive for a ten months' course where so much has
to be paid out for tuItion and for secüring proper trainiñg in
practical work. I rope you do not think for a moment that I
consider this course in London next year the ëquivalint of a Public
Health Nursing course in America, but, as I thInk I have told you
before, it Is a question of giving people the help which is best
suited at the time and establishing a träining wich will meet
such a variety o f people and fnational characteristics.
The American nurses whom you are sending will, of
course, be privileged to täke in whätever course offered by King's
College for Women during the year they might feel of more use
