Miss Alice N. Wormwood,
141 Fayerweather Street,
Cambridge, Mass.
My dear Mis s wormwood:
Miss Sullivan has sent in your name as a member of
the Pediatric Unit to sail for France on September 29th.
May I ask that you make immediate application for your
passport at the District Court in your home town in which
you will need a copy of your birth certificate and 4 photographs
graphs. It is absolutely essential that this application
for your passport should be made immediately since it requires
sometime to secure the necessary information and send it to
Washington where the letter of endorsement of your application
will be held. Please see that there is no delay or mistake in
the making of this application sin ce such delay might result
in our inability to have you sail on the 29th.
There is a small charge for this passport which the Red
Cross will reimburse to you with your expense account, and we
will also try to have you reimburses for your photographs
which are necessary for your passport. The passport will be
mailed to you at No. 1 Madison Avenue, New York City in care
of Miss Carolyn C. Van Blarcom, who is the representative of
the American Red Cross at New York.
You will need a plentiful supply of warm clothing, woolen
underweat, at least 2 dozen pairs of stockings, extra shoes
and corsets and of course a warm sweater. Your street uniforms,
as well as the gray, will be furnished by the Red Cross upon
your arrival in New york. The rubber articles which you are
required to have, coat, hat and boots, if not given by the Red
Cross as we hope they will be, may be bought at Headquarters
for a very moderate sum.
May I ask that you are careful to keep a very strict
account of your traveling expenses for which you will be reim-
bursed by the Red Cross upon arrival in New York. Wherever
it is possible, please retain the receipts for money paid out,
pullman checks, etc., to show that you expended this money and
attach them to your expense account. These pay vouchers will
