Miss Gertrude Madley,
American Red Cross Headquarters,
Brettenham House,
Lancaster Place, W.C. 2,
London, England
My dear Miss Madley:
Everyone was glad to hear you had a safe voyage and also the
two groups that followed you.
We are sending you en air-rail letter today with most of the news
of the Harvard Unit nurses on this side, but will take the opportunity
of sending another letter with Miss Heath.
Enclosed is information you will need on the new appointees for
that little black note book of yours. Leave a sheet in the book for
me. I'll eventually be there, too.
Do you remember the telegram from Mary OtConnor at Flagstaff,
Arizona inquiring about the "Howard Unit"? Your answer came back
unclaimed. She showed up the other day - still interested. he may
appoint her to the reserve list. She had a final physical examination
before returning to Flagstaff so as to be ready if needed.
Miss Haward had dinner with me last week. She still hasn't heard
from the British Consul.
The Red Cross project with Bryn Mawr (similar to the Vassar
Training Camp) is getting under way. They are planning to enroll 200
college graduates interested in taking nursing. The project has kept
the people here very busy. Dr. Parren, Mrs. Belmont, Miss Stimson and
Miss Beard were on the program of its opening.
Your friend, Marion Williams, wants to know where she comes in on
the enclosed picture. I gave one to Miss Haward. She was pleased to have
a picture of you.
Things seem to be progressing satisfactorily. An occasional telegram
is still needed to keep things moving.
