-2- Have you decided upon a storm capyet? We have considered the possibility of having some made after the pattern of the .R.C. volunteers, but we are afraid that the reason that we like marties men those is mainly the color and that if they were made in navy blue to match our suits that they would look exactly like the ones worn 6B by the fire brigades and the bus and train conductors. It will, of course, be necessary for those who are staying a second year to have new hats of some kind. We still like the ones we had from Knox, but they need reblocking and they have shrunk in their many wettings. If it is decided to have more like the last you have our head sizes and perhaps the first nurses coming over could bring them. Mrs. Elcock's size is 221/2012 Now for a little help for the new nurses. They should have six shirt blouses. We have found that convertible collars are most unsatisfactory They should have both black and white gloves and scarves. Luggage need not be limited to the extent that we had thought. They should bring plenty of warm underwear. White sleeveless sweaters to be worn under white uniforms are essential. Remind them that poap as well as all kinds of clothing and shoes are rationed. So is knitting wool. Rubbers and galoshes are un- obtainable. So far we have plenty of writing paper but one won- ders how long we shall have as all other kinds are very scarce. Rubber heels can still be obtained, but we expect a shortage of them soon. There is already a great shortage of all kinds of cosmetics, hairnets, hair pins, bobby pins and white shoe cleaner. Victrola records of dance and classical music would give much pleasure if brought along. We sell tampax, kotex, kleenex, candy and cigarettes in out own canteen. We have American electrical fittings on 110 volts. A small radio will be much appreciated. Cameras may be brought provided they are kept locked through the voyage. Film is very scarce. Uniform is always worn on the street. While on the 'hill' we wear mostly tweed suits or slacks with sweaters. At our dances some wear street uniform, otheers day dresses, while quite a number wear dinner or dance dresses. I find a long black skirt with an assortment of tunics very use- ful. It looks now as though most of the nurses who came in the September group will return at the end of their year, including Alice Olson. I have written to Mrs. Stahlnecker about my own position. I should receive a letter from her in about two weeks time. Dr. Gordon talked to our health commissioner about me while he was in Detroit and I am led to believe that my civil service rating is alright regardless of how long I stay away. Unfortunatelt Dr. Gordon did not see Mrs. Stahlnecker while he was there. I was sure that he would. I feel I owe her some consideration. If she can spare me I am quite content to stay. The following nurses are remaining.
