Marth M are R & April 2, 1941 Miss Ruth Marion Martin, 2760 Devonshire Place, N.W., Washington, D. c. Mail My dear Miss Martin: I am writing to offer you an appointment to the nursing staff of the American Red Cross-Harvard Hospital Unit to be established in England. Te are pleased that you are interested in this Unit, and we feel the nurses who take part have ahead of them an interesting under- taking and will bring back to this country an experience that will be most valuable in nursing. Since you have not had communicable disease training or experience as a segregated service, it will be necessary for you to have two weeks' observation at a reputable communicable disease hospital. This you must do at your own convenience and expense. Information regarding insurance, uniforms, personal clothing and luggage is being sent to you in the same mail. The enclosed forms for your physical examination should be filled in and returned to us. If you will give the form 1193 and the x-Tay report first consideration and mail them to us just as soon as possible, we shall be able to make arrangements for your rinal physical examination by a physician appointed by Dr. Gordon, shile the other forms are being completed. Your appointment to the Unit is, of course, pending a satis- factory physical examination report. If you have obligated yourself in any way to the Army or Navy since August 1940, we should know of this before we consider yourfor appointment to the Unit. If you receive any communication from the Army or Navy shile in communication with us regarding an appointment to the Harvard-Red Cross Unit, please notify us at once. May we hear from you, stating definitely that you are interested in accepting a position as general staff nurse with this Unit. Sincerely yours, Gertrude Madley, Chief Nurse, X/B American Red Cross-Harvard Hos lital Unit. Enc. - 7 61, 9 J
