M el N O 1 December 14, 1928. a F Mise Lucy Minnigerode, T Supt. of Nurses, U.S. Public Health Service, a Treasury Department 5 Washington, D. c. C e S ay dear Miss Minnigerode: Thank you very much for sending me Mise Nora Melton's record. I em sorry that you went to the trouble of getting this from her se me already have all of this on file. It was a statement 8.8 to her condition when employed by the U.S. Public Health Service - providing that was the service that she was with - that we needed in order to complete the evidence. If you will be good enough to give me the full namee of Miss Barton and Mies Jenninge I will be very glad, indeed, to examine their records in order to see if either has ever made application for assistance. The terms of our insurance, if you will remember, required an spplication to be made within one year after discharge from service, based upon total disability. This ineur- ance was developed under the auspices of the Travelere Insurance Company. Because of these tmo requirements of the Insurance Company it becomce very difficult to deal with individuals who are nou making application and tracing their disability to service under the American Red Cross. #e have never questioned the fect that Miss Welton's disability is traceable to her war service. Unfortunately she refused to make the insurance because she wished to work in order to complete her fifteen years of federal service, which would enable her to secure a pension. Therefore, 5. complete record becomes imperative at the present time in order to establish her case on 6 satisfactory basic. It becomes.very difficult, homower, to secure work for Mies Melton because of her deafness. lie have certain types of work available, none of which however ehe is strong enough to perform. This, of course, complicates the situation. Sincerely yours, N.H National Director, Nursing Service.
