Miss Lucy Minnigerode,
MacMahan, Maine.
My dear Miss Minnigerode:
I am sending with this a physical examination blank. Will
me at once. I have asked Miss Bussell (unfortunately Miss Annie Rhodes
you have this made up by some physician in Maine and forwarded to
is out of town) to select a group of twenty nurses from New York
City. I will write to her at once to tell her you have volunteered.
I am having the uniforms made by Dix, and am hoping that the Red
Cross can be persuaded to equip the nurses. I shall have them
assemble in New York and fit them out there. I feel quite sure
that you could wear a standard size if selected by the Manhattan
committee. If your physical examination is accepted and if the
Manhattan committee approve of your selection then it would be well
for you to have the anti-typhoid treatment.
Yours sincerely,
Chairman, National Committee,
Red Cross Nursing Service.
