    "ocrText": "PASSES ON\nFAMED NURSE\nOF RED CROSS\nIS DEAD AT 64\nMiss Minnegerode Expires in\nAlexandria of Apoplexy; U.\nS. Public Health Chief\nMiss Lucy Minnegerode, 64,\nsuperintendent of nurses, United\nStates Public Health Service, and\ninternationally known for her\nhumanitarian services, died yester-\nday at her home in Alexandria.\nMiss Minnegerode, one of the\npioneers of the American Red\nCross nursing service, had been\nactive in her duties with the\nPublic Health Service and appar-\nently was in good health. Her\ndeath followed a stroke of\napoplexy.\n1914 WAR SERVICE\nDuring the World War, Miss\nMinnegerode was one of the first\nAmerican Red Cross nurses to\nvolunteer for overseas service and\nin 1914 and 1915 was stationed at\nKiev, Russia. Her work attracted\nthe attention of the Czar and he\ndecorated her at a personal inter-\nview with the Gold Cross of St.\nMISS LUCY MINNEGE-\nAnne.\nRODE, superintendent of\nReturning to this country, Miss\nnurses for the U. S. Public\nMinnegerode organized the first\ngroup of nurses sent overseas in\nHealth Service, is dead at\nthe Navy service and was placed\nher home in Alexandria. A\nin charge of this service at Red\npioneer in Red Cross work,\nCross headquarters. At the same\nshe had been decorated sev-\ntime she served as superintendent\nof the Columbia Hospital for\neral times.\nWomen and in the influenza epi-\ndemic of 1918 was made superin-\ntendent of the influenza hospital\nhere.\nMiss Minnegerode was ap.\npointed to the U. S. Public Health\nService in 1919 and had 1,700\nnurses under her supervision car-\ning for returned war veterans.\nHONORED IN 1925\nIn 1925 Miss Minnegerode was\ndecorated with the Florence Night-\ningale Medal, one of the highest\nhonors in the field of nursing.\nMiss Minnegerode, sister of Mrs.\nMinnegerode Andrews, was born\nat Oatlands, near Leesburg, Va.,\nFebruary 8, 1871. She was edu-\ncated in private schools and re-\nceived her professional training\nat Bellevue Hospital, New Yofk."
