My dear Miss Nimmer:
We have recently enrolled you in the Second Reserve of the American
Red Cross Nursing Service, because as you have now passed your fortieth
birthday, you are not eligible for service with the military.
However, since you indicated you were available for service now,
we are wondering if you would be interested in civilian nursing service
in Hawaii. The American Red Cross is assuming the responsibility of
recruiting nurses for emergency civilian hospitals in the Hawaiian
Islands. These nurses are employed directly by the Emergency Medical
and Hospital Service of the Territorial Office of Civilian Defense in
the Territory of Hawaii. As the Office of Civilian Defense is under the
direct jurisdiction of the Department of Interios here, the nurses have
the status of energency Federal employees. The enclosed general in-
formation sheet will give you more details about this service.
Will you please reply at once whether or not you are interested,
as we are now making more appointments, and, if you wish to submit
your application for consideration for appointment, will you kindly fill
out and return the enclosed pink form with your reply.
