EDUCATION
SEC. 98. VACCINATION BEFORE ADMISSION.) A
pupil shall not be received into any public school without fur-
nishing a physician's certificate showing hehas been suc
cessfully vaccinated or otherwise protected against smallpox;
nor shall a pupil who has not been vaccinated. or re-vac-
cinated, within seven years, be allowed to remain in any
school. unless he has had either smallpox or varioloid. Such
vaccination certificate shall be preserved on file at the school
by the principal, When pupil is transferred from oneschool
to another in the city, the certificate of vaccination shall ac-
company the transfer card.

EXTRACT FROM THE RULES AND REGULATIONS
CONCERNING VACCINATION.
The Certificate of Successful Typical
Vaccination is warranted and must be issued only
when the resulting scar or cicatrix is not less than one-
third of an inch in diameter, characteristically pitted and
perfect in outline.
Any departure from this standard cannot be accepted
as a successful (typical) vaccination. While an operation
resulting in a scar below this standard may confer a
certain degree of protection, it is advisable to revaccinate
where the departure is material.
Nothing less than the "Typical" scar will warrant the
Vaccinator in certifying to positive protection against
smallpox. Anything less is evidence that the person was
not properly vaccinated: or that the so-called vaccination
was done with an impure or deteriorated vaccine; or that
the physical condition was such as to prevent a full and
perfect evolution of the protective process; or that the
vesicle was broken or otherwise injured 80 as to interfere
