309 March 26, 1918. Miss Valeria Rittenhouse, Purchase, New York. Dear Miss Rittenhouse: Your letter of March 24th was indeed a surprise as we had no idea that there would be a possibility of your discontinuing the work in Purchase for some time to come. Of course if your organization has definitely decided to discontinue the work for the present, there is nothing for us to do. We feel, however, that even in this time of war the public health nursing is very important, and will be needed as never before to protect the interests of the home. Would you not be willing to consider another appointment in the Town and Country Nursing Service? There are nurses who have not had special preparation in ublic health nursing who are ready and willing to serve in military hospitals, when it seems a pity for those who have had this special training, for which there is a definite need,to volunteer for it. I shall await hearing further from you in reference to this. I shall not be at the office after this month, but I am sure your wishes will be regarded by my successor. Sincerely yours, Director, Town and Country Nursing Service.
