toughen 2. mus aread May 29, 1944 File infolder Miss Gunbar Record of telephone conversation with Miss Coltharp, Director, Nurs- ing Service, Midwest, Friday and Saturday, May 26 and 27 regarding her releasing someone for Southeastern area to serve as Deputy Director I asked Miss Coltharp if it would be possible for her to release Mrs. Spaulding to serve for two or three months as Deputy Director in the Southeastern Area. She felt that this would be very difficult to do and that it would be even difficult for her to release anyone unless she could obtain a replacement for Miss Schladweiller. See her memo of May 24. Mrs. Spaulding is carrying a responsibility at the St. Louis University for 32 conferences on the "Six Lessons" plan beginning June 12. Miss Coltharp felt that if she lets enyone go she would have to cancel some vacation time. On Saturday, Miss Coltharp called back after having talked to Mr. Keisker. Slab does not feel that she could let anyone go but certainly Olive Lee would be more possible than anyone else but hard to let her go particularly unless Miss Schladweiller is replaced. In regard to Miss Schladweiller, Miss Coltharp since writing her memo of May 24 has heard from Lydia Reitz now Eastern Area, Ohio, who would like to come back to the Midwestern. Miss Coltharp asked if it would be possible to make an exchange with Miss Schladweiller. She also felt that Miss Schladweiller should not be in an office position as she perfers the field.
