A.R.C. MAIL ROOM
Mrs. Ernestine B. Amick,
RECEIVED
Assistant to Director,
APR
American Red Cross Nursing Service,

Washington, D. C.
Referred
To
My dear Mrs. Amick:-
Your letter of the 21st was received to-day and I am delighted to
hear that there is a possibility of an opening as Chief Nurse.
The General Information Sheet which you mention, was not included
in your letter.
I wired you tonight as directed. Enclosed is the application with
photograph attached. On this application it would appear that I
held many positions, but four of them were promotions in the same
hospital.
With reference to "IV Experience" - Miss Florence P. Burns is now
Superintendent of Somerset Hospital in Somerville, N. J. I have
not mentioned to Miss Floyd that I am planning to enter the service,
but if it is necessary to write her, I hope it will be when you are
fairly sure that my other qualifications are satisfactory.
With reference to my health - I am in excellent condition. My
weight is a family characteristic and has never kept me from doing
anything I wanted to do. I spent a year in the "Frozen North" and
did everything the others did - snow shoeing, dog team riding, etc.
The middle of March I went to a doctor, who specializes in obsesity.
I had a thorough examination, (Basal Metabolism, XRay, Fluroscope,
Blood Pressure, Blood count, Urinalysis, etc) and was found to be
in excellent health. Since this visit I have lost 23 pounds (eating
proper foods) and my present weight is 195 lbs. By June I should
be down to about 175. lbs. I have never had any serious illness and
am capable of doing a hard days work. This year I carried a full
time teaching program, with new students arriving every 12weeks -
went to College 4 nights a week, averaging A-, and was very active
on the Pediatric Institute committee.
If you wish any other references regarding my capabilities, Miss
Anne Murphy, Director of Nursing Education, Seton Hall College,
Central Ave. Newark, N. . J. - has been in close touch with my
activities for about 4 years. Dr. Mildred G. Gregory, 64 North
9th Street, Newark, N. J. has worked with me at Babies' Hospital
since I first came here in 1932.
Thank you for your kindness and I hope that I will be able to be of
some service.
Very truly yours
Stefenie Schlesinger, Polilising X. N.
