Shields\n672 North Park Street\nRichland Center, Wisconsin\n3\nMy dear Miss Shields:\nMiss Nellie A. Brown, Secretary of the Local Committee on Red Cross\nNursing Service, has told us that you have volunteered for service with the\nRed Gross Unit in Hawaii. Nurses are being recruited at the present time and\nwe are hopeful that transportation can be arranged very soon so their services\nVOL.SP.SERV.\nwill be made available as promptly as possible. For this reason it is essential\nfor all nurses who are being considered to be prepared to leave on very short\nnotice. The general information regarding the assignment to this Unit is attached.\nPlease read this carefully, Your name and credentials also have been submitted\nto Miss ladyoesBadger, Director, Nursing Service, Pacific Area Office, Civie\nAuditorium, San Francisco, California, where the Unit is being assembled and all\nappointments are being made at that point. Miss Badger will undoubtedly get\nin touch with you within the next few days if you are to be appointed.\nAll nurses are being asked to submit Form 1219-Application for Service--\nin order that detailed information is available. We suggest that you complete\nthis and return it to Miss Badger by air mail. It is essential that every nurse\nassigned be in good physical condition and this involves & physical examination\nincluding immunisation. Details of this examination are included on Form 1193,\nwhich should be used. The Red Cross is prepared to pay for the physical exemination\nif you are assigned. This charge should not exceed $5.00. A note should be made\non the bill to indicate that you are applying for Service in Hawaii. The bill\nshould then go to Miss Badger.
