Shields 672 North Park Street Richland Center, Wisconsin 3 My dear Miss Shields: Miss Nellie A. Brown, Secretary of the Local Committee on Red Cross Nursing Service, has told us that you have volunteered for service with the Red Gross Unit in Hawaii. Nurses are being recruited at the present time and we are hopeful that transportation can be arranged very soon so their services VOL.SP.SERV. will be made available as promptly as possible. For this reason it is essential for all nurses who are being considered to be prepared to leave on very short notice. The general information regarding the assignment to this Unit is attached. Please read this carefully, Your name and credentials also have been submitted to Miss ladyoesBadger, Director, Nursing Service, Pacific Area Office, Civie Auditorium, San Francisco, California, where the Unit is being assembled and all appointments are being made at that point. Miss Badger will undoubtedly get in touch with you within the next few days if you are to be appointed. All nurses are being asked to submit Form 1219-Application for Service-- in order that detailed information is available. We suggest that you complete this and return it to Miss Badger by air mail. It is essential that every nurse assigned be in good physical condition and this involves & physical examination including immunisation. Details of this examination are included on Form 1193, which should be used. The Red Cross is prepared to pay for the physical exemination if you are assigned. This charge should not exceed $5.00. A note should be made on the bill to indicate that you are applying for Service in Hawaii. The bill should then go to Miss Badger. We would suggest that you have this physical exami- nation immediately upon hearing from Miss Badger so you will be available for service when you are called. We appreciate very much your offer to accept service in this Unit and we believe you will find a great deal of satisfaction in this type of service.
