COPY d Miss Clara D. Noyes, National American Red Cross, Nursing Service, Washington, D.C. My dear Miss Noyes: I have just returned from Europe having been there since Feburary 1918 in the A.R.C. Nursing Service with the Children's Bureau. I joined the Red Cross in Boston as I was then at the time Assistant Sepertendent of the Children's Hospital, and failed to.state that I wished to be returned to Seattle, Washington, my parents.home, on my return to America. In Paris they told me this would be arranged for in New York and in New York they tell me it should have have been arranged for in Paris. I am writing to ask you if this can be arranged in New York or Washington, as I am returning to Seattle to my home this summer, and would like very much to have my expenses paid if possible. Awaiting an early reply, I am Yours truly, (sgd) Emily Hammond Smith. June lo, 1919. 661 West 179th St., c/o R. K. Smith, New York City.
