Miss Julia Smith,
549 Riverside Drive,
New York City+
My dear Miss Smith:
Miss Gardner and I both fool that we should like to offer our mirsos
graduating from a long course $1200 positions and we always try to do so,
thought it is not always possible. We think that after having born the
expense of the course without any income that the murses are right in feel-
ing that they should receive a salary of $1200.00 and we want to secure
such a salary for them if possible.
I have no position near Buffalo, except the one in Oneida. I am
writing today to Hrs. Dunbar telling her that we find it difficult to send
her a murse at $85.00 and asking if by any chance the .Federation of Women's
Clubs could not increase the salary to $100.00 a month. I am inclined to
think that they will try to make this increase to offer you $1200.00 a
year.
I can not put you into communication with her until I have received
your application blanks. I supposed that these blanks had been sent you
some time agoand do not understand how it happened that they were not. I am
enclosing them in this letter. Will you please return those to me just
as quickly as possible as of course I must take them into consideration before
I can suggest that you commicate with Oneida. Probably by the time that
I have received them 9 I will also have received a letter from Oneida and
will know what position they have taken concerning the salary.
Yours sincerely,
Associate Director,
