Miss Eva L. Smith,
smith
a/ours. B. H. Tillson,
101 State St.,
New Bodford, Mass.
My dear Miss Smythe:
We have been authorized to proceed with the second group
of nurses for Siberia. A short time ago a letter of instruction was
sent to you, and in addition to that we are sending you in this letter
your equipment card and measurement slip. It is important that you
fill these out and send them to Miss E. E. Hawkes, Bureau of Equipment,
222 Fourth Avenue, New York City, giving explitit instructions. regard-
ing the size you will require for hat, gloves and waists. The equip-
ment of nurses not living in New York will be sent directly to San
Francisco in care of Miss Lillian White.
Instructions regarding your applying for passport will be
issued by your Division Pirector. We have suggested that they ask all
nurses to notify us of the date on which they make application for
passport, and we also suggest that you notify us of the date on which
you return your equipment card to New York, either by letter or post card.
Due to the limited space on the steamers it is difficult to
give an approximate date of your sailing. In view of this uncertainty
we would urge that you do not give up the work that you are doing, until
your instructions to proceed have been received. This may give you very
little time to sale final arrangements, out may suve considerable time
in waiting.
Upon arrival in San Francisco you should report to Miss Lillian
White at 870 Market Street, the Flood Building for further information.
Should you arrive after 5 P.M., or on Sunday you should report directly
to Miss White whose home address is 806-52nd Street, Oakland, and whose home
telephone number is Piedmont 3780 W.
You
You sho 1d take as little of your own apparel as possible, as
this will be shipped back to your home as soon as you have received the
Red Cross equipment. No furs, such as scarfs, muffs, or fur coats taken. will
be allowed, but a knitted scarf either navy blue or khaki may be
