THE COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS TREASURY DEPARTMENT MILITARY AND NAVAL PAYMENTS FRED J. BURRELL GHAREES E BURRILLE TREASURER AND RECEIVER-GENERAL GEORGE B. WILLARD FIRSTDEPUTY BOSTON, May 12, 1920. KARL H. OLIVER SECOND DEPUTY COPY Miss Julia C. Stimson, Superintendent, Army Nurse Corps, Office of the Surgeon General, War Department, Washington, D. C. Dear Madam: This department has received an application for the $100. gratuity payable under Chapter 283, General Acts, 1919 by Miss Eva L. Smythe, Reserved Nurse, Army Nurse Corps. There is apparently a difference in opi- nion in regard to the eligibility of Miss Smytheffor this gratuity. In order that Miss Smythe be eligible for this gratuity it must appear that she became a part of the Army Nurse Corps and reported for active duty with that body and performed active service in the same as an army nurse prior to November 11, 1918. Miss Smythe's discharge, shows that she took the oath of office at Paris, France, October 4, 1918, and the first three endorsements on her discharge read as follows: Eva L. Smythe 111991 Headquarters A. R. C. Paris France October 4th 1918. Reported at this station this day per. S.O. 193 Par. 149 dated Sept. 21st 1918 Fred T. Murphy Lt. Col. M. C. Director Med. & Surg. Dept. A. R. C. HEADQUARTERS A.R.C. Paris France Nov. 26th 1918 Left this station this day per S.O. 229 Par I dated Nov. 26th 1918. Capt. Burlingame M.C. Director Hosp. Administr. A.R.C.
