Miss Liva L. Smythe,
50 Carroll Street,
New Bedford, Mass.
c/o Mrs. Wm. H. Tillson.
My dear Miss Smythe:
We were very glad to hear
your serious illness as to even comtemplate further foreign
from you and to know that you have so fully recovered from
more than an adequate number of nurses for our present have needs
service. We regret, however, to tell you that WG have many
already proceeded to Europe. Had your name been sent to us,
abroad, as so many of the returning Siberian nurses
as were the others on arriyal in San Francisco, we would have
been glad to give you an assignment. Since we have nothing
in the way of foreign service to offer you we are referring
your name to the Bureau of Public Health, thinking they may
be able to interest you in some branch of their work.
Regretting very much that we
sannot accept your services, believe me as
Very sincerely,
Director, Department of Nursing.
