Storey\n578 Wollingon Avenue\nRochester, New York\nMy dear Mias Storey:\nThe only thing of which we can be absolutely sure in these times\nis that events are unpredictable. You have received my telegram as\nfollows:\n\"Possibility Harvard Unit being taken over by Army which would\nproclude sasignment further Red Cross persornel. Stop Devel-\nopments necessitate my visiting Unit at once. Stop On my return\nearly in July will be able to advise as to your eligibility for\nservice with this Unit. Would appreciate being able to retain\non reserve but are releasing you from any obligation.\"\nIn another few days we probably would have had you on your way to\nEngland and we feel now that it is very fottunate that this was not the\ncase. It seems very likely that the Army will take over the hospital,\nbut to exactly what degree we are uncertain at the moment. If the entire\nsot-uo is baken over appointments will be made entirely through the Army\nand nurses, of course, will be transferred to and from this Unit according\nto Army needs as a whole. I expect to be back in this country in about\nthree weeks. will you keep us in touch with where you are and what you\nare doinge If there is any other opening of a similar type in the meantime,\nwe shall be only too glad to give you the opportunity of considering it.\nWe have asked the uniform companies to hold up all orders. It is likely\nthat you have gone ahead with certain personal expenditures, but I hope these\nwill be for things which you find you can use in the event that no further\nassignments are made to the Unit. For expenditures which were to be definitely\nmet by the Red Cross and which you have already incurred, I would suggest\nthat you make out a voucher on form 102A which we sent you previously,\nitemized, so that we can clear up these expenses now.\nRegarding forms which are in your possession, it would probably be\nbest to return these to this office in whatever condition they are at the\nmoment as even a few weeks difference in time sometimes brings about a\nnecessary change in information required.\nSincerely yours,\nVirginia M.
