    "ocrText": "October Twenty Third\n1\n9\n2\n2\nFOR\nMiss Helen Teal\nKendallville\nIndiana\nMy dear Miss Teal\nThe manuscript of the manuml has returned together with your\ncomments. As I have just returned from a week's absence, I have\nnot had time to do more than glance over your letter hastily. I know\nI shall appreciate the suggestions you have given.\nYou say that you are ready now for another appointment. Before\ndiscussing anything in the immediate future, I should like to find\nout what you would think of coming back to Washington in the spring\nto take Miss Holmes' place as my assistant? Miss Holmes and Miss Van\nDuzor are planning to retire from nursing in favor of farming the\nfirst of March, as you probably know, which means that t I must be look-\ning for someone to take Miss Holmes' place.\nWhile this particular piece of work is not strictly educational,\nit has opportunities in that respect which may appeal to you in that\nMi SS Holmes does nearly all of the writing which is required. She\nprepares the section for the Public Health Nurse end for other maga-\nzines, looks after the Courier material, prepares reports, and reads\nand digests the thousand and one magazines, pamphlets and leaflets which\npour into the office. She also has charge of the scholarship and loan\nfund representing me on the committee and looks after administrative\ndetails having to do with supplies such as our nursing bags, uniforms,\nrecords, pamphlets, etc. She also takes cere of much of the cor respond-\nance. When I em absent, she takes my place at committee meetings.\nI feel that there are more possibilities of leadership in the\nnational office than we have been able to follow up. I know there is\nmuch we might do of an educational nature if We had time. There is lit-\ntle of routine character about the work and I think you would find it\ninteresting.\nI am anxious to fill the position with someone from our own service\nwho knows the work from the point of view of chapter, state and division\nand who at the same time is able to write. You have had just the right\ncombination of experience and I know enough about your ability in re-\ngard to writing and speaking to be sure you could help me much in those\nrespects."
