file pusility Miss Wharton February 19,1946 Nursing Publicity Miss Florine Thomason Miss Florine Thomason, Associate Director of Volunteer Nurse's Aides, National Red Cross Headquarters, was graduated in the class of 1926 at John's Hosioing Hospital, Baltimore. Her career as a nurse has been an interesting and varied one. In 1941 Miss Thomason came to the ARC Eastern Area as nursing consul- tant for some of the Southeastern States and later was brought into the office as one of the assistants to the Director of Nursing Service of Eastern Area: In January 1943 Miss Thomason was put on leave of absence for the duration to join the Army Nurse Corps. After being oriented at Walter Reed General Hospital she was sent to Camp McKall, N.C. for basic training. Her immediate appointment was Chief Nurse of the 303rd Station Hospital. This unit sailed for England anixxx in September '43 and was stationed in the midlands of England at Lilford Hall, an old manor house built in 1631. which the nurses shared Lilford Hell with Lord Lilford and nine servants. The Hospital was set up in nissen huts about as of a mile away in the park. and was surrounded by airfields and serviced the air corps. When this Station Hospital was inactivated after V.E. day and the high pointers sent home Miss Thomason was sent as Chief Nurse to the 231st Station Hospital which was preparing to sail for service in the Pacific. When V.J Day came this Unit took over two hospitals for a time and high phinters were again sent home. In December Miss Thomason was sent to tha Paris to bring nurses in the 180th Station Hospital home and arrived in the U.S.A. Dec. 19th, 1945. She returned to the ARC National Headquarters as Associate Director of the Volunteer Nurse's Aides February 1, 1946.
