Extra ted from letter from Miss Noyes to Mr. Bicknell, May 22, 1924. It would seem, therefore, that an American nurse, assisted by two well trained Bulgarian nurses would be able to carry the School, and in that case we might be able to taper off as far as the financial obligation is concerned. I do not know whether I have made myself quite clear, but if it is not, I should be ver very glad to discuss it with you futher. If, however, you do approve of these general suggestions I shall be glad to incorporate them in a letter to Miss Torr rance, for your consideration. I find we are paying Miss Torrance but $150. per month which is a much smaller salary than that paid to Miss Bridge. Inasmuch as she is remaining for a much longer period than orginally was intended, and is most anxious to establish herself in some type of public health nursing in this country for which she has special preparation, I should like to recommend if it is not too late to increase Miss Torrance's salary to $2100 She is now recieving $1800. You will see by her letter that she is a bit worried about the possiela bility of establishing herself upon her return to this country, and this slight increase will at least convince her that we appreciate her work and the real sacrifice that she is making. This would increase the budget as prepared by Mr. Swift, which was $4200 to $4500. If the plan as suggested above of retaining only one American nurse in that country, develops this saving more than offsets the increase in this years budget." see letter filed 502. Bulgarian School.
