    "ocrText": "COPY\nStatement of Major Frederic A. Besley, M. R. C., U. S. A.\nAs Director of Base Hospital No. 12, U. S. A., I had\nselected Miss Daisy D. Urch as Directing Nurse and when the\nunit was called into active service I recommended to the\nCommanding Officer that she be made temporary chief nurse.\nOn the trip over, before we landed in England she gave\nevidence of being devoid of tact and she was disloyal to and\ncritical of the Commanding Officer. When we arrived at\nthis hospital and took up the work she continued to be\ndisloyal to the Commanding officer and to manifest antagonism\nto any directing or controlling authority. After she had\nreturned from a prolonged leave I heard her inform the\nCommanding Officer that it was her desire not to have any\ndirect communication with him but that she proposed to con-\ntinue acting as temporary chief nurse and consult him only through\nher appointed assistants. At no time did she display any\naptitude for the position and her attitude was always\ndistinctly antagonistic I advised her removal.\n(Sighed) Frederic A. Besley,\nMajor, M.R.C., V. S. A."
