COPY Statement of Major Frederic A. Besley, M. R. C., U. S. A. As Director of Base Hospital No. 12, U. S. A., I had selected Miss Daisy D. Urch as Directing Nurse and when the unit was called into active service I recommended to the Commanding Officer that she be made temporary chief nurse. On the trip over, before we landed in England she gave evidence of being devoid of tact and she was disloyal to and critical of the Commanding Officer. When we arrived at this hospital and took up the work she continued to be disloyal to the Commanding officer and to manifest antagonism to any directing or controlling authority. After she had returned from a prolonged leave I heard her inform the Commanding Officer that it was her desire not to have any direct communication with him but that she proposed to con- tinue acting as temporary chief nurse and consult him only through her appointed assistants. At no time did she display any aptitude for the position and her attitude was always distinctly antagonistic I advised her removal. (Sighed) Frederic A. Besley, Major, M.R.C., V. S. A.
