19 FORM OS-2 ATLANTIC DIVISION the P Marie is a AMERICAN NATIONAL RED CROSS T INTER-OFFICE LETTER Date Apr. 7, 1920 Els Miss Clara D. Noyes to Miss Florence M. Johnson From Subject M. My dear Miss Noyes: A question has come up in connection with Miss Jessup as to the verification of her date of a entering the service with the American Red Cross. We, of course, have no papers for her as she joined overseas. She has given us her dates as from May 15, 1918, through April first, 1920 and if that is correct; as undoubtedly it is, she should be receiving an additional salary since January 1, 1920. She is also taking it for granted that she is on leave of absence and I think expects to be carried until her return after her operation. You may remember Miss Hay left it to this side as to whether she was returning or not. Of course her papers all state she is not released, but simply on sick leave and furlough. Is it according to your wishes that she continue in that way or shall we tell her there is a possibility of her not going back? I know she has done splendid work and presume she would be dreadfully disappointed not to return. I was very glad to get the statement concerning the increase in pay for the length of service overseas, which she brought from Miss Hay. It certainly makes it well worth while and ought to be a great inducement to the nurses to remain in service. Thank you for the notice which came concerning Miss Arnold and Miss Landon. We have stopped any further procedure on their departure and shall let the matter rest and substitute two other nurses. I am going to Atlanta this afternoon and shall look for you shortly. With best wishes, I am Yours faithfully Henee 12. sleum. FMJ:ACT DIRECTOR, NURSING SERVICE 3182 2
