September 3, 1942 AIRMAIL- SPECIAL DELIVERY Miss Elizabeth Wright 3177 Magnolia Street Corpus Christi, Texas My dear Miss Wright: Thank you for your prompt reply to our recent letter. The assignment for which we wish to consider you is for service with an emergency civilian hospital on the Island of Kauai, one of the Hawaiian Island group. However, we would like you to realize that, due to the unpredictable nature (of foreign service, you would be expected, to agree to serve wherever requested and in whatever capacity the exigencies of the situation demanded. You should proceed with your physical examination and return the report as soon as possible. The required immunizations are smallpox, triple typhoid and tetanus toxoid. If you have not been vaccinated recently for smallpox, it would be wise to have a repeat vaccination. As both the tetanus and typhoid innoculations are given in a series covering several weeks, it would be ad- visable for you to start these immunizations as soon as you have word from us that you are physically qualified to receive an appointment. Please keep both records, which are being enclosed, untál your immunizations have been completed. You may need to take them to San Francisco with you if your immunizations are not complete before you leave Texas. Please remember to mail one copy back to this office your departure from this country. There are a number of forms which you will have to fill out and return in order to have all of your credentials in order. We are enclosing a few with this letter. Please return those which need to be filled in as soon as possible. 1. Immunization form - 2 (return one, keep one) 2. Insurance statement re conditions of employment as emergency Federal employee he assignment faich we are offering you pending completion of satis- factory credentials is for staff nursing. As you will have noticed on the general information sheet which has been sent to you the salary for staff nursing is $110 a'month plus room, two meals a day and laundering of uniforms. Of course, you realize that in accepting an appointment it would be for the duration. Sincerely yours, (Mrs.) Ernestine B. Amick Assistant to Director A/b Nursing Service
