April 11, 1918. Miss Alma E. Wrigley, Sec'y, Pasadena Chapter, A.R.C., Pasadena, Calif. My dear Miss Wrigley: I have today sent your papers to the office of the Surgeon General stating that you will be a- vailable for duty about the middle or last of May and that you desire an appointment as a Chief Nurse at Arcadia, near Pasadena. In order to secure an appointment as a Chief Nurse you must be willing to enter the regular Army Nurse Corps for the period of the war. It will be necessary for you to take the examination of Chief Nurse which, I tel- ieve, is very simple, based upon the Army Manual. We are recommending quite a large number of nurses to the Surgeon General's Office to act as Chief Nurses from the Red Cross and they all appear to be willing to take the examination and get into the regular corps. It unquestionably places the individual in a more secure position. Believe me as Very truly yours, Director, Bureau of Field Nursing Service. N:K
