12 PAGE 2 - NOTES ON THE COMMITTEE ON AWARDS - WORLD WAR I The Committee on Awards was given specific power, among other things, to supervise the proper distribution of awards, to pass upon recommendations for the gold, silver, and bronze medals, and to place orders for the manufacture of various forms of awards (provided the War Council had approved their form and design). Since the designs and regulations which Mr. Lee had submitted to the War Council were never finally made a part of the official records of the Red Cross, the Committee on Awards exercised some of the power originally conferred upon Mr. Lee in determining regula- tions. (Note: the official name of the Committee was National Committee on Awards)
