This is a sound recording of King George VI's Empire Day address that was broadcast from London. In the recording, the King said: "It is not mere territorial conquest the enemy is seeking. It is the overthrow, complete and final, of the Empire and of everything for which it stands, and after that the conquest of the world."

This newsreel film begins with footage of a political rally, presidential candidate James Cox's delegates, and the floor of the Democratic National Convention. Footage is also shown of William Jennings Bryan; James W. Gerard, former Ambassador to Germany; Tammany Hall delegates; and President Woodrow Wilson as he signed the Philippine Autonomy Act of 1916.

This sound recording of President Franklin Roosevelt's fireside chat includes: "At this time, when the world -- and the world includes our own American hemisphere -- is threatened by forces of destruction, it is my resolve and yours to build up our armed defenses."

This sound recording captures a speech President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave before a Joint Session of Congress convened in special session upon his call. In the address, Roosevelt urged repeal of the arms embargo provisions of the Neutrality Act of 1937 and enactment of measures governing American shipping, trade with belligerents, and travel on ships of belligerents.

This sound recording of Prime Minister Churchill's address to Congress includes the remark: "I cannot help reflecting that if my father had been American and my mother British, instead of the other way 'round, I might have got here on my own."

This film, a compilation of newsreels, contains footage of Generals Albaro Obregon, Frederick Funston and Hugh Scott as they met to arrange cooperation of troops against Pancho Villa; Black troops of the 24th Infantry as they were used in the fight against Villa; the first German merchant submarine "Deutchland" as it arrived in Baltimore harbor with its crew and Captain Koenig; the M1, a recently built U.S. submarine; and Woodrow Wilson in Indianapolis, New York City, and Alexandria, Virginia where he drove a rivet into a ship at the opening of a new shipyard.

This silent film contains footage of the scenic Old Quarter and slum activities in Paris, France. Additional scenes show Woodrow Wilson as he gave a speech; Eddie Rickenbacker in his cockpit; and the St. Stephen as it sank.

This is a sound recording of Winston Churchill's first speech to the nation as Prime Minister of Great Britain. The address was broadcast from London, and in it Churchill said: "Behind us, behind the armies and fleets of Britain and France, gather a group of shattered states and bludgeoned races ... upon all of whom the long night of barbarism will descend, unbroken even by a star of hope, unless we conquer, as conquer we must, as conquer we shall." Elmer Davis of Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) analyzed the speech following the broadcast.
