THE PETITION OF William Baker
of Hartford in the
County of Haufforu !respectfully showeth, that he is Foreigner, having
a been
born in Iuland about A.
That he is a subject
of Virtana Tuen of the Milter hungeling
of Guat Butain & guland
That he emigrated to the United States A. D. 33
That before the beunty Court, held at Hartford, within and for the County of Hartford,
on the 10th day of August A. D. 18 37
(said Court being a Court of record,
having Common Law jurisdiction, and a Clerk and Seal,) -he declared, on oath, his intention to
become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any
Foreign Prince, Potentate, State, or Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to hitown
Luney of the Minter Kingdam-of Retain
& guland
as by certificate, duly authenticated, ready in Court to be shown appears.
That he has resided in the United States three years next preceding his arriving at the age of
'twenty-one years, which occurred on the
day of
A.D.18
and has continued to reside therein to the present time ; and that for three years next preceding it
has been his bona fide intention to beçome a citizen of the United States.
That he has resided during the last five years constantly in thè United States, (including the
three years of his minority,) and during the last year in the State of Connecticut. That he has
behaved during said five years as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of
the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the
same. Whereupon he prays your Honor to take his case into consideration, and on finding the
allegations true, to admit him to be a citizen of the United States, according to the Acts of Con-
gress in such case provided, as he in duty bound shall pray.
