That on the\n20th of march\nA. D. 184g.\nElisha B. I tewart of off aterbury day\nin said year\nappeared before said Court, the same being a Court of Record with Common Law Jurisdiction, a Clerk and a Seal, and made\napplication to said Court to become a Citizen of the United States; And upon examination first had, it being made to appear,\nand this Court having found to their satisfaction that the said Elisha B. Stewart\nis a free white male\nperson of lawful age, an alien and a subject of Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland,\nthat he is now of the age of\n22\nyears, that he was born in\nNova Scotia\nin said\nKingdom, that he has resided in the United States constantly for more than five years last past, and in said State of Connecti-\neut for more than one year last past, and that he has during all said time behaved himself as a good citizen, has a good moral\ncharacter, and is attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and\nhappiness of the same. It also appearing to this Court that said\nto the laws of the United States, appear before\nElisha B Stewart of did.\nthe arrive in the United statementific\nallaining to the age of 18 years and that he has continued A to\nreside there thence hisherto. and he now here on oath declars\nthat for three years last past it has been and nows\nGourt within and for\non the\nday of\nA.H.18\n,\nthe same being a Court of Record with Common LAW Jurisdiction Clerk and a Seal and on Oath did deolare\nthut it was bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce all allegiance and fidelity forever\nto every foreign Prince, Potentate, State and Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom\nof Great Britain and Ireland,\nas by the Records of said Court appear. And\nthe\nsaid\nElisha B. Stewart\nnow here\nin\nthis Court declares on Oath, that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every for-\neign Prince, Potentate, State and Sovereiguty whatever, and particularly to Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great\nBritain and Ireland,\nof whom he is now a subject, and he also, declares on Oath, that he will support the Constitution of the United States of Amer-\nica. Wherefore the said\nClisha B. Stewart\nis hereby, by this Court, admitted and declared\nto be a Citizen of the United States of America.\nSTATE OF CONNECTIOUT,\nCOUNTY OF NEW HAVEN:\nss.\nBE IT REMEMBERED,\nThat the e) the Country 26th day of march\nbefore the me Henry G. Penis Court, within and for said County, having Common Law Jurisdiction, with a Clerk and\nA. D. 184 y\nSeal, personally appeared,\nJohn me adarns\nof\nNew u aven\nin said County, who was born in\nScotland\naged about\n35\nyears, and on Oath did declare that it was bona fide his intention to become a\nOITIZEN OF JNITED STATES, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign\nPrince, Potentate, State and Sovereignty whatever-and particularly to Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great\nBritain and Ireland,\nof whom he is now a subject.\nIn\nTestimony\nWhereof, I, benry 4. truris\nClerk of said Court, have hereunto set my\nhand and the Seal of said Court, the day and year aforesaid.\nbenny as Staris Clerk."
