on the recommendations of the State Department, and the
latter has consistently refused to O.K. such requests on
the grounds that by breaking an established precedent, it
would invite a flood of similar requests. Steamship lines
are similarly restricted. Meanwhile passenger space which
night be put to excellent use in this expensive battle of
ideologies is being wasted. Letters to your congressional
representatives will hasten the day when civil aeronautics
statutes will be modernized.
11. We, now, have over 80 national sports associations
and organizations identified with the People-to-People Sports
Movement, and, another attempt is being made to bring in the
remainder by inviting them to nominate outstanding individuals
within their groups for membership on our committee which has,
now, grown to 350. Our committee will not be complete until
it includes the accumulative expert thinking of all sports
promotion organizations. Some, we suspect, have been hesit-
ant in joining us becausé our long handled title seemed to
be in the class of some communistic-front organizztion. Of
course, this is farthest from the truth, but, if you have any
suggestions for improving the committee's name we will apprec-
iate your passing them along.
12. Of course, here in our little shop, we have a continual
flow of little things to keep us busy--get a couple of base-
balls autographed by Lew Burdette for some little league
players down in Columbia-atrange for baseball training films
to be made available in the Netherlands--sen a directory of
sporting goods manufacturers to Czechoslovakia--arange for
