SUBJECT: Telephone Conversation with General Bradley
TO:
Chief of Staff
1. Reference my talk with General Bradley from your
office, I finally received his reply at 1215 hours after he
had taliced to General Eisenhower, whom he called when I was
out of the office. This is the substance of the message
which ho gave me and which he discussed with General Eisenhower.
2. He feels that it is urgent to attaok promptly
according to plan with the Corps of three divisiona
previously mentioned, and for later progress to depend
on the situation as it develops, rather than planning on
a definite voluntary check which he foels would be most
difficult to get started again.
3. He plans to launch his attack in depth and to
bring up the remaining troops when ready shortly behind the
initial attack to insure even greater depth.
4.
He will strictly control the operation on phase
lines and wateh dispersion and encirclement closely,
progress depending upon the situation developed.
5. He now has one of the remaining divisions of the
XII Corps in hand and states that he would attack in this
manner in depth even if the others were now available.
6.
Having discussed with Monty the Northern attack,
he feels that Patton and Monty's attacks will have not more
then a 48-hour separation.
