Mr. Dwight D. Eisenhower
President of the United States
Washington, D. C.
Dear Mr. Eisenhower:
I am sure you have read or received many letters, but this one, I do hope
you will give some consideration in regard to future decisions concerning
racial disputes.
I am a Christen woman - I believe without prayer, we can not do anything
successfully. At this time, we need to pray continuously for our Country,
and our relations toward one another.
In the sight of God, we are of one race, and that is the human race. We
as Christens must love everyone in order to meet our God in peace.
I have been praying constantly for a peaceful outcome of the troubles in
Little Rock, Arkansas. It's a definite disgrace to the United States of
America. You would think that a Governor, being a leader of a State would
be more willing to comply with the rules and regulations of the Constitution.
We Negroes are American Citizens - First Class tax payers, but so often
treated as second class citizens, if there is such. In our hearts, we would
like to know what it is that the White man has against the Negro. What can
we do to make peace with the White man? We have to live on this earth to-
gether. We can not do without each other. We as a group, want your friend-
ship, won't you accept?
A recent incident where my Cousin and I were refused a ride on a Trans-
contentintal Railway Bus because we were Negroes was one of the reasons I
am writing you tonight. It was most humiliating. This happened in the
City of San Francisco.
May God ever bless you and keep you in the right path. I am praying for
you in your Universal guidance.
Sincerely yours,
(Mrs.) Flay J. Anderson
