At the Cabinet meeting of November 19th, Mr. Dulles began
his report on the John P. Davies case by recalling the
controversy which developed when Davies came under attack
from right wing elements as causing the loss of China, and
when anti-McCarthy elements immediately reacted in strong
defense of him.
At the mention of reaction against any attack by Senator
McCarthy, the President interjected a comment to the effect
that this was a feeling which he could share!
