    "ocrText": "Our domestic and foreign policies are\ntied together/ and the\nvarions are closely moves optented of Thte I feel are some so\nyery\nclese sighted thinking is needed.\nApril 17, 1947\nDear Mr. President:\nI have carried on a lengthy corres-\npondence with Secretary Acheson and\nI have seen la State Department rep-\nresentative sent by Secretary Acheson,\nto explain the treek-Turkish situation\nto me.\nI went to see Averill Harriman the\nother day to try to get some enlight-\nenment from him. I know that his\nappointment was very favorably received.\nbut Harry he could that Hopkins was count largely on Averill because to he carry knew\nthought highly of him\nout\ndirections. He is rich and generous\nand well meaning. I have known him\nsince he was a little boy. I like\nhim very much personally but I cane\navey from tolking to him, feeling\nthat there was not sufficient realiza-\ntion of the domestic situation we are\nfacing and its tie up with the foreign\nsituation.\nOur domestic and foreign policies are\nare 90 closely tied together and the\nvarious moves made of late are 80\npolitically oriented, I feel some very\nclear sighted thinking is needed."
