Our domestic and foreign policies are tied together/ and the varions are closely moves optented of Thte I feel are some so yery clese sighted thinking is needed. April 17, 1947 Dear Mr. President: I have carried on a lengthy corres- pondence with Secretary Acheson and I have seen la State Department rep- resentative sent by Secretary Acheson, to explain the treek-Turkish situation to me. I went to see Averill Harriman the other day to try to get some enlight- enment from him. I know that his appointment was very favorably received. but Harry he could that Hopkins was count largely on Averill because to he carry knew thought highly of him out directions. He is rich and generous and well meaning. I have known him since he was a little boy. I like him very much personally but I cane avey from tolking to him, feeling that there was not sufficient realiza- tion of the domestic situation we are facing and its tie up with the foreign situation. Our domestic and foreign policies are are 90 closely tied together and the various moves made of late are 80 politically oriented, I feel some very clear sighted thinking is needed.
