generalNotes
The original exhibit text read: "Eleanor Roosevelt was a strong advocate for Black civil rights leaders inside the White House. When Franklin D. Roosevelt's press secretary Stephen Early sent the First Lady's secretary this sharply worded memo criticizing National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) leader Walter White for "bombarding the President with telegrams and letters" about anti-lynching legislation, Eleanor Roosevelt quickly responded in a letter defending White."
